ThunderPower about to release new batteries for the T-Rex 250

I have been testing some new batteries for the T-Rex 250 from ThunderPower R/C.

The 850 MAH “Pro Power” pack has crazy performance being the first true 30C battery pack under 1,000 MAH. This particular pack increases the head speed of the T-Rex 250 and virtually eliminates all bog with carbon fiber blades. I have flown several hard 3D 4 minute flights with the CF blades and have only put about 700 MAH back on the pack with pack temps not exceeding 105 degrees in 80 degree ambient temps.

The 910 MAH “Pro Lite V2″ pack has about the same power of the Align 850 MAH pack, but with a higher capacity and small form factor. I can push this battery to about 4.5 minutes of hard 3D and still remains cool.

Out of all the batteries I have tested with the 250, these are by far my best choice. These batteries will be available in January 2009 and most dealers are accepting backorders now! There are 2s and 3s versions of each pack:

“ThunderPower ProLite 2″ 2s 910 MAH, JST connector (TP910-2SJPL2)

JR DS3500G servo on T-Rex 250!

I have tested many different servos on the T-Rex 250, including JR, Hitec, Align and Futaba. However, I was finally able to test the DS3500G within the past couple of days and I am very impressed. So far, this is my #1 choice for the tail of the 250, nothing comes close to this servo when it comes to holding power, feel and precision. I can do all kinds of pirouetting maneuvers with ease, even 4 point pirouetting loops, tail reversals and more. If I can do it with my 700, I can do it with the 250! I will try to release some video with it again soon.

Here are the specs on this servo:
Type: Digital
Torque: 27 oz/in
Speed: .07 sec/60 degrees
Dimensions (WxLxH): .58 x 1.05 x 1.3 in
Weight: .9 oz

Also, this servo coupled with the Spartan DS-760 gyro provides unbelievable performance for the T-Rex 250. I have added a configuration file as well for the Spartan gyro and this servo. The file can be downloaded here. More help with setting up your Spartan gyro can be found here.

DX7 Special Edition

I received my new DX7 SE a couple of days ago. This is an awesome radio, it is probably the fastest transmitter available with a transfer rate of 11ms, which is almost twice as fast as the standard DX7 (21ms). It also offers full 2048 resolution when used with receivers that support the feature, such as the 7100, 7100R and AR9000.

I have been flying a modified DX7 with these same features for a little over a year now, but this particular transmitter is a production version that will be made available for the general public, so soon everyone will be able to enjoy these blazing transit speeds at a fraction of the cost of high end radios.

The DX7 SE will be available very soon with a small price tag of about $320.00.
